Information for SEIU 925 K-12 employees

The Governor’s "Stay Home" announcement deemed some services that schools are providing as "essential". School district employees are providing essential community services in this unprecedented time.  If you are assigned a shift, please plan to report unless you specifically hear otherwise from your district.

District-specific updates are emailed to union members from chapter leaders. Check your email inboxes for the latest information. If you are not receiving emails and would like to, contact your union organizer. See our General Resources page for information about small business relief, healthcare, housing, and other issues.

  • Continued work and pay: SEIU 925 is working closely with other unions who represent K-12 employees to ensure continued pay for ALL school employees during extended closures. Union chapter leaders have worked with our districts to make sure many options exist to keep people employed during this at this time: continued work, alternate work assignments providing essential services to children & communities, professional development time, paid leave, COVID leave for those who meet CDC criteria, and others depending on your district.

  • Health insurance: Weeks ago we secured health insurance due to the passage of Senate Bill 6189. Any school district employee eligible for health insurance as of February 29, 2020 will stay insured.

Working together, union chapter leaders and management will figure out a plan that takes care of our kids, school staff, and community during this uprecedented crisis. This situation is new territory for everyone, and school districts may need some time to put workable plans in place to provide community services.

If this public health pandemic has shown us anything, it is how connected we all are to each other: as a union. Click here for stories of how SEIU 925 members are rising to the challenge.
