Volunteering At Nice Roots Farm (no experience necessary! all tasks will be taught & demonstrated)

Participants will learn about growing food in an urban environment, make an impact with hands-on help, and get to know others looking to do the same. No green thumb necessary!

  • We recommend wearing closed-toed shoes/boots as well as bringing a water bottle and bring garden gloves, if you have them.

  • Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty

More about Nice Roots Farm

Nice Roots Farm is an urban agriculture project located in the West Allegheny neighborhood of Philadelphia, started in 2010. Through partnerships with the Philadelphia Orchard Project, the Philadelphia Horticultural Society, and Penn State Extension, the farm now features 20+ fruiting trees, two high tunnels for extended season growing and harvesting, and 20+ raised beds.

The quarter-acre farm grows over 4,000 lbs. annually of fully organic vegetables and herbs, and donates the yield to the community, to Share-affiliated pantries and mutual aid networks. The main function of Nice Roots Farm is to serve as a demonstration and educational space for the community.
