Please contribute to our mutual aid campaign providing direct relief to Madison's working families by paying off the $236,539.87 in school meal debt that families owe the Madison Metropolitan School District.
Problem:
Food insecurity is at record highs while families struggle to make ends meet under capitalism and cost of living increases. Families currently owe over $235,000 in school meal debt to the Madison Metropolitan School District. Students miss meals every day because they can't afford to eat. School meal debt impacts every student because “uncollectible” debt periodically gets paid for by the MMSD Food and Nutrition Budget, which directly reduces the funding available to feed all students.
Demand:
Madison Area DSA and Freedom, Inc. believe that no student should ever have to worry about going hungry at school. Together we're fighting along with other passionate community partners to ensure that all Madison area public school children (kindergarten-12th grade) receive free and healthy school meals!
Community Campaign:
We can only achieve our goal by building a coalition of students, families, teachers, and community members! Together, we as a community can step up and pay off the current school meal debt while also advocating for systemic change. Contribute today!
