On Monday, President Biden released his budget request for fiscal year 2023. The budget funds the Pentagon and other defense initiatives to an absurd level: $813 billion dollars.

Now, Congress has the chance to review the request, make changes, and authorize funding. We must fight back against this alarming, wasteful use of American taxpayer funds. The U.S. spends more on our military than the next 11 countries combined–including China and Russia. Allocating more funds to the Pentagon will not keep us safe. Rather, we need our elected officials to enact responsible stewardship of our finite resources. We cannot keep borrowing money, just to hand half of the Pentagon's budget to private defense companies. This will not put food back on our tables, or help folks impacted by the pandemic get back to work.
