Help Abundant Housing LA support SB 679, which would create a countywide affordable housing financing and solutions agency for Los Angeles County.
Funding affordable housing and ending homelessness is a “Core Four” goal in Abundant Housing LA's policy agenda. Los Angeles County has a deficit of over 700,000 homes that are affordable to households with low incomes, a situation that accelerates neighborhood displacement and pushes Angelenos into homelessness.
Much like the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority, an L.A. County affordable housing finance and solutions agency would have the power to raise revenue and fund systemic solutions to the countywide affordable housing crisis. The ability to raise revenues and to finance and approve affordable housing for people who earn the median salary or below, with a focus on extremely and deeply low income households, is critical.
However, after passing the Senate with flying colors, SB 679 is now languishing in the Assembly, with no hearings in sight. This is truly baffling, as LACAHSA represents a never-before-seen level of commitment by 60+ nonprofits to finally end homelessness in LA. With the September 10th deadline to pass state bills fast approaching, it's on us to push Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon to do more for lower-income families in LA County, many of which reside in his district in Southeast Los Angeles. Please write to Speaker Rendon, and ask him to move SB 679 forward for the sake of low-income communities in his district!
