Dear Members of the Executive Board of the Legislative Council:
I urge you to pass legislation to develop a State Climate Action Plan. Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and appropriate planning is needed to develop strategies to mitigate and adapt to its impacts.
Action on climate is supported by the majority of Nebraskans. The 2015 Nebraska Rural Poll found that sixty-one percent of rural Nebraskans agree or strongly agree that the state should develop a plan to address the impacts of extreme weather events or climate change. Furthermore, the LR 455 special committee, which was created last year by the State Legislature, found universal support for the need for an evidence-based, data-driven state climate action plan. I urge you to pass a State Climate Plan out of Committee, so that it may come to a vote by the full legislature.
