Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) is a new federal program designed to address the increased risk of food insecurity that children face during the summer months by providing food assistance on an EBT card to low-income families with children.
Summer EBT will provide an estimated $35 million to more than 300,000 low-income Colorado families across the state when school breaks for the summer, a time when child hunger typically spikes. We need your support in championing this program to make sure it can be implemented this coming summer.
To implement this exciting program for Summer 2024, Colorado needs to act fast! In order for the state to prepare and meet fast-approaching federal deadlines, a bill to give state agencies needed authority and administrative funding will be considered during the special legislative session beginning November 17.
Take action by reaching out to your Colorado state legislators to express your support for child food access during summer months, and to urge legislators to support Summer EBT legislation during special session, so families with children can access these food benefits for summer 2024. If you are represented by one of the bill sponsors (Senator Zenzinger, Senator Bridges, Representative Bird, or Representative Garcia) the form will help you to send a thank you message for their leadership.
