This week, Senator Keith Regier (R – Kalispell) filed a draft joint resolution which calls for an investigation to end to the Indigenous reservation system based on hostile and unsubstantiated statements about Indigenous people. For generations, state and local governments have initiated attacks on Indigenous culture, treaty rights, land ownership, family structure, self-determination. This appears to be yet another instance of discrimination and harm.
The American Indian Caucus of the Montana Legislature has strongly condemned this bill. This draft resolution is an embarrasment to the people of Montana, and there is no reason for it to move forward.
Please tell Senator Regier, Senator Jason Ellsworth (President of the Senate), and Senator Steve Fitzpatrick (GOP Senate Majority Leader) to reject this proposed legislation.
