Incarcerated people are being forced to endure dangerously high temperatures without adequate ventilation or air conditioning. It is not uncommon to have multiple days of triple-digit temperatures during a Texas summer. Millions of dollars have been spent defending lawsuits and too many incarcerated people have died. These unbearable heat conditions pose serious risks to the health of those who are incarcerated as well as the staff and undermine the rehabilitative purpose of prison.
This is unacceptable. Texas legislators need to be made aware that their constituents want them to act now to put an end to these cruel and inhumane conditions.
