Tell the Senate to lower the voting age to 16 in The NM Voting Rights Act TODAY!
New Mexico, which has one of the highest populations of people of color in the country, is working to expand voting rights and democracy. This week, legislators introduced a bill called the NM Voting Rights Act, SB8 to protect and expand voting rights in New Mexico, including making Election Day a holiday, lowering the voting age to 16 in local elections, restoring voting rights to people who were formerly incarcerated and making automatic voter registration even easier.
Over the course of this last year states across the US have passed numerous laws that will give the state the power to overturn elections and dismiss the will of voters. These laws are designed to diminish voting rights, especially those of Black, Brown, Indigenous, and People of Color. These voter suppression tactics will have a lasting and devastating impact on democracy.
Will you join us in asking the Senate to INCLUDE OUR YOUTH in the NM Voting Rights Bill?
