What's Happening?

The Department of Defense, without 'proper public process' is proposing to site 44% more Growler jets on Whidbey Island and increase the number of practice flights in central Whidbey from 6,100 per year to 24,000 per year. 

This decision will dramatically increase the regional impact of the noise and pollution from the jets across all of NW Washington.

This devastating increase could happen as early as January 2019.

What's at Stake?

For decades our communities have worked in partnership with the military.  But this expansion is just too much.  It puts the health of our people, communities, economy, and our natural environment at stake.  

NW Washington is one of the most beautiful places in the United States. Thousands of residents and visitors come here to live, work, learn, and play.

This decision threatens the heart of communities across NW Washington. Our quality of life, tourism, business, and outdoor recreation. It will have real health impacts for people and wildlife and will damage our land, air and water.

Increased Growler jets and flights will threaten Ebey's Landing National Historic Reserve, San Juan Islands National Monument, and shorelines and destinations in Jefferson, San Juan, Clallam, Skagit, and Island counties.

The Olympic National Park, the quietest place in the country, should not be lost by the increase in Growlers – the loudest jets in the military.

We have gotten our elected official's attention – they are listening - Governor Jay Inslee, Congressmen Rick Larsen, Derek Kilmer, Adam Smith and U.S. Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray - but we need to make our voices louder.  Sign this petition — and share with your networks to let them know we are expecting them to stand up for us.
