Beginning on or about November 15, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Cody, Wyoming Field Office is planning an unnecessary bait/trap removal of a portion of the historic McCullough Peaks wild horse herd. The proposed removal of up to 41 horses, coupled with the treatment of mares with GonaCon, raises serious questions about the future of this herd. Of particular concern is the fact that around 60 of the 180 wild horses are over 15 years old. With an aging population and a growth rate of only 2%, the herd could naturally decline in numbers. This winter alone, on-the-ground experts expect to lose 15-20 elderly horses and foals.
This removal is pointless and cruel. Time is of the essence to act now and ask the BLM to stop this removal. Please take action below.
