Congress is targeting Medicaid—and the consequences could be devastating.
The House is has proposed with a budget that has deep cuts to Medicaid, in order to fund tax breaks for the rich. These proposed changes put the lives of over 80 million people at risk—including children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
Medicaid is facing at least $880 billion in cuts. There is no reality in which $880 billion will be found through fraud or waste. Whether it's through changing who qualifies for Medicaid, or adding red tape through work requirements, all proposed changes WILL result in reduced access to critical healthcare for Americans who need it most.
Some of the policy shifts may sound technical, but they all mean the same thing: less care, fewer services, and more barriers to the support people need to live in their homes and communities. Most devastatingly, these sneaky cuts to Medicaid will be catastrophic for people with disabilities, who often already struggle to get accommodations while navigating complex enrollment systems.
Medicaid is more than just health insurance—it's a lifeline. It pays for essential services like personal care attendants, home and community based services, and other supports that allow people with disabilities and aging adults to live with dignity and choice. Medicaid is the difference between life and death for millions of Americans.
We can't let Congress gut Medicaid. We must speak up now.
