Protect Avi Kwa Ame!

Help designate Nevada's next national monument: Avi Kwa Ame

We have a chance to make history and protect Avi Kwa Ame (Spirit Mountain), one of the most visually stunning, biologically diverse and culturally significant lands in the Mojave Desert.

The proposed Avi Kwa Ame National Monument spans more than 380,000 acres of public land in Southern Nevada with outstanding ecological, cultural, recreational and scenic values.

The area is a hotspot of botanical diversity, providing habitat for an abundance of plants and animals, including the desert tortoise, golden eagles, bald eagles, and the desert bighorn sheep. The proposed monument features staggering peaks and canyons, natural springs, and the biggest Joshua tree forest in the world.

Establishing the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument is a crucial step in the preservation of Indigenous ancestral lands.

The proposed monument has a plethora of rock art, petroglyphs, and other cultural sites. Called Avi Kwa Ame by the Mojave tribe, this site is sacred to the Hopi and Chemehuevi Paiute in addition to being tied to the creation and cosmology of Yuman-speaking tribes including the Mojave, Halchidhoma, Pai Pai, Kumeyaay, Maricopa, Quechan, Cocopah, Hualapai, Havasupai and Yavapai.
