Speaker Sexton's textbook commission appointment does not - and should not - represent Tennessee values. .
I call on the State Legislature to reject Governor Lee and Speaker Sexton's appointment of radical-right extremist, and hate-group founder, Laurie Cardoza-Moore, to the Tennessee Textbook and Instructional Materials Quality Committee.
Most of us believe that every child, whatever their color, background, religion, or zip code, has the right to learn in a supportive environment that respects their humanity, and upholds their dignity. Hate should have no home in our children's classrooms.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
- On twitter, Ms. Cardoza-Moore called on Americans to go to Washington DC on January 6th with her to disrupt the election results, and then after the attack on American Democracy continued to spread lies about those who started the riot, and about the election on November 4th.
- As the Tennessean reported on March 24, “Cardoza-Moore is the founder and president of the Franklin-based nonprofit Proclaiming Justice to the Nations, which is committed to fighting anti-Semitism but has also previously been deemed a hate group by The Southern Poverty Law Center.”
- Ms. Cardoza-Moore has a pattern over a decade of discriminatory rhetoric beginning with her racist propaganda surrounding the construction of a new mosque in Murfreesboro, as she promulgated an entirely false narrative associating this congregation with terrorism.
- In her vocal discourse about textbooks for students in Tennessee public schools, she opposed any mention of Islam that was not pejorative, and any treatment of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict that was not one-sidedly pro-Zionist.
- Her website and her many films and publications feature anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian diatribes laced with blatant misinformation. And most recently, Ms. Cardoza-Moore has promulgated a blatantly false account of the terror in Washington, D.C., claiming that “Antifa'' perpetrated the violence against persons and property at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
