Pop-Up Bike Shops are free, community-centered events that provide basic bike repairs, safety gear, and support to neighbors who rely on their bikes for transportation, fun, or fitness. By volunteering, you'll help create a welcoming space where everyone feels empowered to keep rolling safely. Whether you're greeting guests, helping with check-in, or turning a wrench, your time and energy will make a real difference. Volunteer Roles Overview:

Canvassing

  • Raise awareness for Pop-Up Bike Shops by sharing community posters.
  • Ideal for local volunteers who can identify leaders and strategic locations.

Large Item Transport

  • Move pop-up materials (bicycles, tents, tools) using a car, truck, or bike trailer.
  • Requires ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

Intake & Checkout / Welcome Table

  • Welcome visitors, gather bike needs info, and note contact details.
  • Share info on low-stress biking, safety gear, and community resources.

Bike Mechanic – Apprentice

  • Learn bike mechanic skills by working with Intermediate or Advanced Mechanics.
  • Involves tool use, lifting heavy bikes, and hands-on work.

Bike Mechanic – Basic Repairs

  • Identify and address basic bike repair needs.
  • Tasks include tube changes, lubing chains, and cable adjustments.

Bike Mechanic – Intermediate & Advanced Repairs

  • Address complex bike repair needs.
  • Optional collaboration with a Bike Mechanic Apprentice.

General Event Support

  • Set up tents, tables, repair stands, and essential infrastructure.
  • Distribute and track gear giveaways, engage with attendees, and assist in cleanup.

Data Entry

  • Flexible timeframe – before and after events.

Volunteer Release and Waiver of Liability (Please read and sign below.)

This Volunteer Release and Waiver of Liability ("Release") is executed by the individual named below ("I", "me", or "Volunteer") in favor of Tri-State Trails, an Ohio nonprofit organization, and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, and agents (collectively, the "Organization").

Volunteer Role

I desire to volunteer for the Organization and participate in activities related to being a volunteer (the "Activities"), which may include facilitating bike rides, supporting fundraising events, and other related duties. I understand that I will receive no compensation or employee benefits for my service and that I am not an employee of the Organization.

Assumption of Risk

I understand the Activities may involve risks, including injury, illness, death, property damage, and other hazards, both known and unknown. I voluntarily accept and assume all such risks.

Medical Treatment

I authorize the Organization to seek medical treatment on my behalf if needed during the Activities. I understand I am responsible for all associated costs and release the Organization from any claims related to such treatment.

Release and Waiver

I fully release and discharge the Organization from any and all claims or demands for injury, illness, death, property damage, or loss arising from my participation in the Activities—including those caused by the negligence of the Organization.

Insurance

I understand the Organization does not provide:

  • Medical, health, or disability insurance

  • Workers' compensation coverage
    I waive any claims for costs or liability related to these matters.

Photographic Release

I grant the Organization the right to use photographs, video, or audio recordings of me taken during the Activities, including use of my name, likeness, and voice, in any format and for any purpose, without further compensation.

Miscellaneous

This Release is the complete agreement between the Organization and me. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. This Release is binding upon me and my heirs, legal representatives, and assigns.

Governing Law

This Release shall be governed by the laws of the State of Ohio.
