I am writing to you regarding a very important issue - the proposed Data Center bills HB 4906 and SB 237. I urge you to oppose these bills. Data centers are the wrong approach for Michigan and carry with them severe concerns regarding water and land use, tax giveaways to major corporations and the climate implications of these Data centers.

The taxpayer protections in these bills are  not complete, and certain loopholes would allow transmission  costs of centers to be passed on to taxpayers.

In addition, there are NO protections for water infrastructure costs as the bill stands. If this bill passes, it'll mean higher water rates for our communities. The bills' language regarding municipal water hookup is not clear. Without clarity on water usage and requirements, it's impossible to know the burden these centers will put on our ar

Workforce protections in these bills are also lacking. There must be worker protections  written into these bills, along with a stronger job creation requirement that emphasizes the creation of new and local jobs.

Finally, the climate impacts of these proposed data centers cannot be ignored. Data centers operate using exorbitant amounts of energy, land, and water.

For these and many other reasons, I am urging you to OPPOSE the proposed data centers in Michigan.
