Right now, 3 out of 4 New Mexicans don't have access to paid family and medical leave. We shouldn't have to choose between paying our bills and caring for ourselves and our families. That's why we need to pass paid family and medical leave during the 2025 legislative session. Help us get HB 11 over the finish line this year by contacting your lawmakers and urging them to vote in support! 

Before the call:

Remember, your legislators work for you, and they have been elected to represent your concerns!

We will provide you with a script to use, but before moving on, take a minute to consider what YOU want to say. Our voices are most impactful when we share our stories and experiences. In a few sentences, write down why the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act matters to you. 

For example:

“Paid Family and Medical Leave is important to me because when I was pregnant, I didn't have this type of support and struggled to make ends meet. Having this safety net would have changed my life and given me more time to bond with my newborn.”

Making the call:

When you're ready, click "call me" at the very bottom of this page. You will receive an incoming call immediately. Answer and you will be guided through tips for your call (also below) and connected with your lawmaker. 

During the call:

Step 1. Introduce yourself to whoever answers the call. (If you are leaving a message after-hours or on a machine, skip to step 3.)

• “Hello! My name is ______ and I live in district [X]. I am calling to encourage [NAME OF LEGISLATOR] to pass House Bill 11, the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act.” (Find your legislator HERE)

Step 2. Your call will either be connected to the legislator or a member of their staff will take your call. 

Step 3. Introduce yourself (again, if applicable) and read the following script. Don't worry about sounding “scripted”— legislators are used to and expect this:

• “No one should have to choose between their job and caring for a new child, a sick family member, or addressing their own serious health condition. This bill is a safety net that helps workers stay afloat without losing their paycheck when they need it most. Right now, 3 out of 4 New Mexicans don't have access to paid family and medical leave. [If you have a personal story, share it now. “Paid Family and Medical Leave is important to me personally, because…] I support PFML because it creates certainty and stability for families when everything else seems uncertain. Please pass House Bill 11, on behalf of hard working New Mexicans and their families. Thank you for your time.”
