🚸 Fund Safe, Complete Streets for All — Not Just Drivers
Across Oregon, too many people risk their lives every day just trying to get to work, school, or the store. Sidewalks are missing. Crosswalks are unsafe. Bike lanes disappear where they're needed most. And traffic violence continues to take hundreds of lives and injure thousands more every year.
Last year's legislative listening tour made one thing clear. Oregonians across rural, suburban, and urban communities want investment in complete, connected, and safe streets for walking, biking, and rolling. These are the basics of a modern transportation system, not optional extras.
We demand a 2025 Transportation Package that includes:
✅ Dedicated funding for Safe Routes to School, Great Streets, and Oregon Community Paths,
✅ A statewide plan and dedicated revenue for upgrading and transferring deadly state highways to local control,
✅ A proposed 1% tax on vehicles renamed the “one-time safety fee” with the revenue directed toward life-saving infrastructure and safety programs,
✅ Strong spending guardrails and public oversight to ensure safety dollars do not get diverted to highway projects,
✅ A transportation system that provides for people, not just those who can afford cars or are able to drive.
We can't solve our climate crisis or traffic violence epidemic without investing in connected, complete transportation networks. Oregon's future depends on transit AND complete streets. Please ensure every Oregonian can get where they need to go safely, affordably, and with dignity. Any package that does not fully fund walking, biking, rolling, and transit is incomplete and out of step with what Oregonians actually need. This is our bottom line.
