G-20 Heads of State
Dear World Leaders,
Clean energy is in crisis — and thus so too our efforts to combat air pollution and climate change.
Don’t believe the hype about the clean energy revolution: the percent of electricity the world gets from clean energy sources declined nearly five percent over the last 20 years.
Not only is fossil fuel use rising, electricity from nuclear is declining.
Unfortunately, solar and wind are not making up for the loss of nuclear, and we lack cost-effective ways to back them up.
We can’t solve the climate crisis and lift all humans out of poverty without a lot more nuclear power.
Nuclear energy is the safest, cheapest and most low-carbon way to make reliable power — but many people believe the opposite.
The ignorance leads to fear which leads to discriminatory policies that are hurting nuclear.
The poor suffer the most from the consequences: air pollution, high energy costs and climate change.
We urge you to join James Hansen and other leading scientists by endorsing the goal of achieving 100 percent clean power as quickly and as cheaply as possible.
