Joan Culberth Memorial Scholarship

Joan Culberth's Family, Celeste Culberth and Peg Lonnquist, Jay Culberth and Beth Arrigo, wanted to establish this fund to honor the life and legacy of music for Joan.  Even when dementia confused many of her memories, music always brought her home.  In the last week of her life, when her energy level was quite low and she was not really verbal, a music therapist came in to play guitar and sing to her.  The music worked a kind of magic for her.  She rallied and began to sing the songs, like Eidelweiss and My Favorite Things, with all the words and on pitch!  The rest of the day she was energized and even giggled at stories we told.  Music is the spirit that animated her life.  She inspired us to try to find some way to help spread this gift to others in our community.
