More voice. More choice. And a stronger democracy.
Ranked choice voting (RCV) allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on. It's a simple way to strengthen our democracy by making elections fairer and more functional. And, it comes with a host of benefits like:
- More choices.
- More diversity of candidates and winners.
- Majority winners.
- Less negative campaigning.
- Stopping strategic voting
- Lower costs.
As of November 2021, 43 jurisdictions used RCV in their most recent elections, and more than 50 jurisdictions are projected to use RCV in their next election. That includes Maine and Alaska, two states using RCV in statewide elections. Five states used it in the Democratic Presidential Primary in 2020. And Burlington has voted to join this growing movement in pro-voter, pro-democracy reform. Let's make sure the legislature approves RCV in time for the 2024 election.
