Donald Trump's nominee for U.S. Attorney in D.C., Ed Martin, is unfit to serve. His lack of prosecutorial experience alone should be enough to disqualify him from this important post, which includes serving as both the local and federal prosecutor for D.C. But his resume also includes repeated appearances on Kremlin propaganda TV; defending January 6 rioters, including an alleged member of the Proud Boys; helping raise over $2.5 million to support insurrectionists; and presenting an award to Timothy Hale-Cusanelli, a Nazi sympathizer who espouses antisemitic and white supremacist rhetoric.
Martin has served as interim U.S. Attorney since Donald Trump's inauguration, where he has weaponized the Department of Justice by firing and demoting prosecutors who investigated the January 6 insurrection, threatening Democrats in Congress, and targeting critical NIH research. Moreover, he appears to be using the position of U.S. District Attorney to engage in political retribution. This is an abuse of power, and Ed Martin should not be confirmed. Urge your senators to oppose Ed Martin's nomination.
