LN grad, Chad McCune, was looking for a way to honor his father, Dr. Bob McCune, who had passed away in 2011. In addition to his veterinary practice, his dad led a life of service to the community, including dutifully giving 35 years to the Lawrence Exchange Club, so it was natural for Chad to pay tribute to his father by giving back to the community. He founded the Bridge Fund with his friend, Mark Pressley. It started with a $1000 gift in 2012 to Lawrence North. The idea was to bridge the gap so that financial barriers didn’t prevent student participation. It quickly became apparent that the need was much greater than the students of this one high school, and so they expanded the program. By 2014, this LTSF designated fund had grown enough to support the students in all 21 MSD of Lawrence Township schools. By widening the scope of students served, the fund continues in the same spirit, but now reaches more students, providing opportunities that may not have otherwise been possible. The Bridge Fund has provided funding for extracurricular activities, special projects, scholarships, school supplies, testing fees, book rental fees, and so much more. Since 2012, $173,021 has supported nearly 8,793 students. Chad wanted to ensure the sustainability of the Bridge Fund, and so every fall, he and his friends host "the BoB" Golf Outing, in memory of Dr. McCune. This fun-filled event raises a significant portion of the Bridge Fund annual funding budget. We are so very grateful for Chad’s original vision and on-going commitment to the students in Lawrence Township. This is the power of YOU! You, too, can contribute to the future of Lawrence Township students with your gift! Every donation helps LTSF fulfill its mission of connecting community and classrooms to provide the resources needed for all children to excel.
