Yesterday, Sen. Schumer announced that a vote to proceed on the Freedom to Vote Act is expected next week. This has been a long battle. Right now, we must organize to ensure that our leaders respect the will of the people and pass the Freedom to Vote Act and other critical legislation that our communities need.

Inaction is not an option. Join us for join us for Pop Up for Democracy: A Rally for the Freedom to Vote Act on Thursday, October 21 at 7pm ET/4pm PT to take action and organize our communities to join the fight to build a multi-racial democracy.

We are joining the Declaration for American Democracy to call on the White House and Senate to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. These bills would protect our right to vote, end partisan gerrymandering, counter undemocratic and dangerous election sabotage efforts, and help eliminate the undue influence of money in our elections.

We’re hosting a mass rally with Elizabeth Hira, Spritzer Fellow & Policy Counsel, Democracy Program of the Brennan Center for Justice, Pablo DeJesus, Executive Director of UUs for Social Justice, Jennifer Lamson, Senior Advisor for Federal Campaigns & National Initiatives of  Democracy Initiative, Ann Maxwell, All Souls Unitarian, Washington, DC James Reeb Voting Rights Project, and Side with Love Organizing Strategy Team members.

RSVP for Pop Up for Democracy: A Rally for the Freedom to Vote Acton Thursday, October 21, 7-8:30pm ET /4-5:30pm PT.

We’re mobilizing UUs across the nation to pass the Freedom to Vote Act. This action is a part of the national Relay for the Freedom to Vote ACT where folks are walking, biking, wheelcharing and driving from West Virginia to DC between October 20-23. Our very own UU the Vote Squad leader, Ann Maxwell, will be biking the entire route! Join Ann and UUs in DC and West Virginia in solidarity.

Like you, I am still here! We are still here fighting because our faith calls on us to show up with moral courage to dismantle white supremacy and create a world where all live with inherent worth and dignity. The struggle for voting rights and democracy is a struggle for racial justice. Together, we can combat the structural inequities that limit or exclude the political agency of BIPOC and other marginalized communities.

UU the Vote ignited with activity under the threat of a pandemic, white nationalist violence, and decades of racialized voter suppression. Despite fear and violence our faith community showed up for democracy. Right now, we must show up in full force again. We need you to join us for Pop Up for Democracy: A Rally for the Freedom to Vote Act and then organize your team or congregation to take collective action between Oct 22 and Oct 31. Learn how at “Pop Up for Democracy.

In faith and solidarity,
