State employees have been committed to keeping Colorado safe and ensuring our communities access to essential services throughout the pandemic. Despite being short-staffed and under-funded, this past year we kept state hospitals, veterans homes, and correctional facilities open. We helped unemployed people get financial and housing assistance and kept our parks open, among other vital state services. Despite the danger to our health and the safety of our families, we worked tirelessly to ensure that our communities were safe and well protected.

For years, state employees have kept Colorado running despite wages that haven’t kept pace with the cost of living, more and more work with fewer people to do it, budget cuts that meant not enough of the critical equipment to do our jobs and unsafe working conditions.

  • On average, Colorado state employees make 16.4% less than employees in comparable jobs in large public and private employers

  • Adjusting for inflation, Colorado state employees have taken a 7% pay cut over the last 12 years.

  • While Colorado’s population has increased by 14% in the last nine years, the number of state employees serving has not grown by 12% - this means fewer people having to do more work to keep the state running.

We have invested our hearts and souls in taking care of our communities. And now it’s time for lawmakers to commit to investing in us.

Colorado will receive $4 BILLION in federal funds as part of the American Rescue Plan. These funds can help our state restore budget cuts and ensure that the services Coloradans need to recover and thrive are fully funded. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that lawmakers invest federal funds in public services and state employees. Will you stand with us to demand lawmakers invest in good union jobs, schools, healthcare, and the critical public services Coloradans depend on to support all Colorado communities?
