Farewell Sheena: ReadNYC Champion Becomes Deputy Mayor of NYC
United Way of New York City bade farewell to President and CEO Sheena Wright, who joined Mayor Eric Adams’ administration as New York City’s Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives. “Sheena did an amazing job in her nine years as United Way of New York City’s CEO,” said Michael Schmidtberger, Chair of the Executive Committee at Sidley Austin LLP and UWNYC co-Chair. “We’re proud of all that she accomplished!” Added Donald Donahue, retired CEO of The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) and UWNYC co-Chair.
Sheena’s vision for UWNYC to become the trusted backbone organization that convenes cross-sector partnerships has been realized and serves the organization well in providing UWNYC a seat at the table for critical initiatives like ReadNYC that have had tremendous impact for New Yorkers in need.
“I am so honored and grateful for the years that I could be of service through United Way of New York City. I look forward to working together in my new role to make New York an even better place to live,” said Sheena. Read the full story here.
Before her departure, Sheena, along with Donald Donahue and Michael Schmidtberger, brought Eric McDonnell on as Interim CEO of UWNYC. Eric has 20 years of executive leadership experience serving United Way of the Bay Area in San Francisco. Eric will attend the Power of Women to Make a Difference Awards Luncheon and looks forward to meeting Women United members in person. Read more about Eric here.
