Care and Choices at the End of Life: A Discussion on Hawaii’s Our Care, Our Choice Act Webinar October 21, 2020 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM HT Online On January 1, 2019 Hawaii enacted the Our Care, Our Choice Act: the compassionate authorization of medical aid in dying for the terminally ill, mentally capable adults with six months or less to live. Ten jurisdictions have now authorized the practice of medical aid in dying. In many other states, legislation is being introduced to provide patients the full range of end-of-life options. Compassion & Choices National Medical Director, Dr. David Grube, Susan Amina and Michelle Cantillo will provide information on the clinical competencies, the nursing role, pharmacy role and medication protocols involved in all end-of-life choices with particular emphasis on medical aid in dying, including implementation of the law in Hawaii and models for normalizing and integrating end-of-life choice into standard medical care.

That first or second patient can be very impactful, and the experience can be accompanied by many questions. This is the second session in a 2-part series on Hawaii’s Our Care, Our Choice Act (OCOCA) designed for APRNs & RNs from all Islands to learn more about how the law is working, share personal stories and answer your questions regarding medical aid-in-dying. The webinar will provide information and experiences from various experts who have worked directly with all aspects of OCOCA/medical aid in dying. The webinar will be moderated by Samantha Trad, Compassion & Choices Hawaii State Director.
