A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR |
PROMISE ADVOCATES GO TO WASHINGTON |
This month, a group of our dedicated Promise Advocates traveled to Washington, D.C. for a three-day Child Care NEXT Summer Convening hosted by the Alliance for Early Success. During the visit, our group met with Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine to thank him for his leadership on early childhood investments amid ongoing budget reconciliation negotiations, as well as to underscore the importance of robust funding for child care at the federal level.
Following the meeting with Sen. Kaine, the Promise Advocates headed to the Cannon House Office Building for a House Budget Committee hearing on "Examining the Powerful Impact of Investments in Early Childhood for Children, Families, and Our Nation’s Economy." The hearing featured testimony from a slate of policymakers and early childhood experts.
"[The child care] funding gap is begging for a public investment so that supply can meet demand. Without it we will continue to have educator shortages, diminished maternal labor force attachment, and ever-widening inequality of child outcomes," said Rasheed Malik, hearing witness and Center for American Progress Senior Director of Early Childhood Policy, during his opening remarks. |
| |
In advance of the hearing, our group spoke with House Budget Committee member and Virginia Rep. Ben Cline to underscore the importance of quality early education to Virginia's children, families, and businesses.
The meetings took place as the Senate continues to hammer out a budget reconciliation deal that, in its current form, does not include any provisions for child care. You can help us ensure that child care funding remains in the final reconciliation package by writing your Senator TODAY!
