We Cry Justice: On Repentance and Repair: Making Amends in an Unapologetic World Community Event May 2, 2024 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM CT Virtual We Cry Justice provides space for us to engage in reflection together about how social justice issues connect to our individual and collective values and spirituality. This is a multifaith reflection group. During April, May, and June, we will engage with the Beacon Press book and UUA 2023-2024 Common Read, Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg's On Repentance and Repair: Making Amends in an Unapologetic World. (Rather than the 4th Thursday in April, we are meeting on May 2 due to Passover.) All are welcome - you do not need to be UU or Texan to participate!

Thursday Night Action Hour with Special Guest Mano Amiga! Community Event May 2, 2024 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM CT Virtual All are welcome to join the Texas Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry (TXUUJM) for our weekly Thursday night justice gatherings on Zoom. This week, a special guest from Mano Amiga will share about DeVonte Amerson's case in Hays County. DeVonte has a trial set in June, even though at the trial of his co-defendant, Cyrus Gray, it became clear that "Hays County had poor evidence against [Gray], especially considering the gravity of the charges – no eyewitnesses, video, fingerprints, or DNA connected Gray or Amerson to the murder." Steve Phillips, How We Win the Civil War: Securing a Multiracial Democracy Community Event June 6, 2024 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM CT Virtual Join the Texas UU Justice Ministry as we welcome New York Times bestselling author, columnist, and political commentator Steve Phillips, in conversation with TXUUJM Executive Director Rev. Erin Walter, about his book, How We Win the Civil War: Securing a Multiracial Democracy and Ending White Supremacy for Good. This is a FREE event, open to all. Steve Phillips gave a powerful talk to UUSJ (our Washington D.C. partner) earlier this year, and TXUUJM is excited to welcome him to a special follow-up conversation. Steve is a national political leader, civil rights lawyer, and a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress; this author talk provides a unique opportunity to equip us for the work ahead. Pablo DeJesus, Executive Director of Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice (UUSJ), will join us to light the chalice. Reproductive Freedom is Religious Freedom Community Event June 19, 2024 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM CT Horizon UU Church, 1641 W Hebron Pkwy, Carrollton, TX 75010 The presentation will describe how reproductive freedom is intertwined with religious freedom. The short film Under G-d which will be screened, weaves together the stories of a mother and activist in Indiana, a rabbi in Florida and lawyers throughout the country fighting abortion bans in part by placing them in the legal and cultural context of religious freedom.
