Middle schoolers encourage new friendships with salvaged materials

As many of you are gearing up for the back-to-school season, we wanted to share a heartwarming story from one of our Community Building Blocks grant recipients: a group of students from Briggs Chaney Middle School who took direct action to make their school a more welcoming place this year. Their teacher, Na'Shea English, was teaching a kindness and civilty unit in one of her classes when her students came up with the idea of building a "buddy bench" - a place for shy students to sit during recess and make friends. To read the full story and hear how Forklift was able to support the project, click here.

Want to help us support even more projects like this one?
Our capacity to support community projects is something we take pride in everyday, but we couldn't do it without the generosity and support of our donors. Whether you're a contractor who handles loads of reusable materials on a daily basis, or a homeowner with a few no-longer-needed items, your donated leftovers could go directly into the hands of folks who need them.

You can drop off items at our warehouse any day of the week, or request a free pick-up.

We're looking for our next Salvage Superhero!

Community Forklift is seeking an outgoing and energetic Retail Sales Associate to work full-time with our growing green business. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. For details about the position and how to apply, click here.

The FunkYard Festival

Thank you, National Building Museum!

We want to shout a huge "THANK YOU" across town to the National Building Museum (NBM) for having us at their DC Ward Days this summer! Forklift was stationed right outside of Fun House, inviting visitors to turn salvaged tiles and wallpaper into personalized coasters. After walking through the all-white installation, participants got to take a blank white tile and add their own color, texture, and design. We always love working with the NBM, especially when we get to talk to young DIY-ers about (creative) reuse, and we're looking forward to our next collaboration.

Salvage Spotlight: Brand new dryers!

Got wet laundry? We've got dryers! We received a donation of 30 brand new, high-efficiency Whirlpool ‘Duet’ dryers. These retail for over $600, but we’ve priced them at only $395. Dozens of these dryers were ordered for an apartment building, but 30 of them didn’t fit into the units, so we got the never-been-used castoffs! They have been tagged as specialty items and will not be included in flash sales. Come and get yours while supplies last!
