Dear RCHS Friends and Family,

The campus is a dustbowl, except when it rains, and then it’s a soupbowl of gravel, dirt and stones.  You have been patient and accommodating, and I have been grateful and apologetic. 

There is exciting news to share! On Monday, October 16th, we received building permits. There is still more infrastructure work to be done, but the work inside the construction fence is moving forward. So, while you watch your step, avoiding the last of the trenchwork, don’t forget to look up!  We poured concrete footings for the Food Bank and the K9 Training office this week.

It was a blast from the past on Saturday, September 23rd when 1980s nostalgia took over the Omni La Costa Resort for this year's Celebration of Second Chances. 

It was incredible to see how everyone leaned into the "Bark to the Future" theme! While the event's inspiration was the past, we're focused on the future that's sure to be brighter thanks to the awesome donors and sponsors who made this event possible.

Kyle’s story starts on the streets of a small town in Mexico. He was a stray puppy taken to one of our rescue partners. He struggled to settle in at that shelter. The noises. The smells. The commotion. Everything was new and he was overwhelmed.

Eventually, a veterinarian volunteered to foster Kyle. That’s where he stayed until October of 2021 when, at just nine months old, he was transferred to Rancho Coastal Humane Society through Friends of County Animal Shelters (FOCAS.)

In many ways, Kyle still had to learn to be a dog. One of the biggest initial challenges he faced was learning commands in English. He had only heard Spanish until making the 17-hour drive from Sonora to Encinitas.
