BIG WINS FOR CHILD CARE IN VIRGINIA! |
On June 1, the Virginia General Assembly passed a bipartisan budget which includes key investments for early education and care! The budget was signed into law by Governor Youngkin on June 21st.
Since the Virginia Promise Partnership was launched in December 2020, we have pursued three big goals: increasing access and choice, improving quality, and sustaining the workforce. This budget makes a down payment on our bold goal of quality, affordable child care for all Virginia families by 2030 by: |

HONORING THE 2022 CHILD CARE CHAMPIONS OF THE YEAR |
Our companion organization, Virginia Promise in Action, recognized our inaugural Child Care Champions of the Year at an awards ceremony on June 1. Child Care Champions are a bipartisan group of legislators who played a critical role in ensuring significant child care provisions in the biennial budget. Congrats to all the 2022 Child Care Champions of the Year and thank you for all of your hard work! |

PROVIDER AND PARENT CORNER |
Our Parent and Provider Advisories have been busy preparing to effectively advocate for early learning and care in the new fiscal year. We are excited to introduce our new leadership teams: Provider Advisory Tammy Mann, Chair (Alexandria, VA) Angela Rouse, Vice-Chair (Harrisonburg, VA) Parent Advisory
Nicholas Palacio, Chair (Staunton, VA) Tomashia Cornitcher, Vice-Chair (Alexandria, VA)
In June, both Advisories provided feedback on increasing child care access at the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) public engagement sessions. VDOE sought feedback on a proposed approach for an alternative methodology to estimating costs and setting payment rates for the Child Care Subsidy Program (VA CCSP). The questions and ideas shared by parents and providers will help shape the VA CCSP, which is a critical component to quality, affordable child care for all Virginia families.

“It’s clear from my conversations with Virginians that our child care system is in critical need of support,” said Senator Kaine. “If we want to build communities and an economy where every family can thrive, we must ensure that parents aren’t locked out of the workforce because they can’t find affordable care for their kids, and that child care workers aren’t forced to quit jobs they love because they can’t pay their bills. Our proposal will provide this crucial sector with the support it needs to make child care much more affordable and accessible and to pay its tireless workers a living wage—a win-win-win for our families, workers, and economic recovery.”

Juneteenth represents resistance, resilience, and the recognition of Black Americans who have been fighting for justice for centuries. We were proud to recognize and show our support for Juneteenth this year and every year. |
June 19th was Father's Day and we enjoyed celebrating all of the fathers who play a major role in shaping the lives of children. Happy belated Father's Day! |
