We're kicking off our parent organization's (MVCAN) monthly meeting by bringing you frontline news from North Carolina. Join us for an invigorating conversation with two battleground state grassroots organizers from the Airlift group Down Home North Carolina.

You'll hear how NC is going blue

2020 could finally be North Carolina’s moment—thanks to the Airlift-supported organization, Down Home NC. This powerful community-based grassroots group activates black, brown and white working class voters in rural North Carolina around local issues that affect their daily lives (such as cash bail reform, Medicaid expansion and the rise in white supremacy). Down Home galvanizes the exact communities that will turn North Carolina blue. This state is on the path to electing a Democratic majority in the State Legislature, sending a Democratic senator to D.C., and becoming a swing state in the presidential race. Find out how Down Home NC is an integral part to making it all happen.

And you'll meet two NC leaders

Brigid Flaherty

Founder and Co-Director of Down Home NC

She is a passionate years-long organizer whose work is dedicated to transforming North Carolina into a place that works for all its citizens, not just the rich and powerful. She is dedicated to fighting the rise in white supremacy and the acceleration of the race-class divide in The South.

Dreama Caldwell

Candidate for Alamance County Commissioner + member of Down Home NC

As a formerly incarcerated African American woman, she knows first hand that being poor shouldn’t be a crime. She is committed to ending cash bail and ensuring that children throughout the county receive the quality public education they deserve.
