Protect Lake Superior and the Boundary Waters from sulfide mining pollution

PolyMet's dangerous sulfide mining proposal presents serious risks to waters across our Land of 10,000 Lakes. Distinct from iron ore, sulfide mining generates sulfuric acid, which can pollute lakes, rivers, streams and groundwater for hundreds of years. These waters are home to fish, plants and wildlife, and often also supply drinking water for communities.

While PolyMet's proposed mine would pollute the St. Louis River and Lake Superior, we know that whatever happens with its proposal has implications for bodies of water across MN. Because as long as copper and nickel remain under our ground, big mining companies are going to try to get it. That means everything from Lake Superior, to the Boundary Waters, to the Mississippi River, and all the lakes and streams within those watersheds, stand to be harmed if this dangerous proposal advances.

That's why we have to stop it. PolyMet's permits are insufficient. They don't protect our water or the communities downstream from the proposed mine. Stand with us and tell the DNR not to reinstate PolyMet's permit to mine.
