Help Free Minnie to an Elephant Sanctuary
On September 15, 2019, an Asian elephant named Beulah collapsed and died at the Big E fair after the Commerford Zoo exploited her for money one final time. A few days later the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service comfirmed that Karen, an African elephant owned by the Commerford Zoo, had died in March 2019. Both Beulah and Karen suffered for decades as a result of their forced labor and regular transport to events across the Northeast, but their lives was no less terrible when they were imprisoned on the Commerford Zoo property in Goshen, CT.
Minnie, the Commerford Zoo's sole surviving elephant, still has an opportunity to heal and live freely with other elephants at either The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee or the Performing Animal Welfare Society. Because Minnie is now without the company of other elephants and remains in an environment radically unsuited to elephant well-being, the need for her release is more urgent than ever.
TAKE ACTION NOW
Please ask Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont to publicly call on the Commerford Zoo to promptly release Minnie to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee or the Performing Animal Welfare Society.
