Valencia College: Let Faculty Vote

Background

Over the last few weeks colleges and universities nationwide have been scrambling to address the widespread changes due to the global health concerns of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). As adjunct faculty at Valencia College, we have felt the impact with our mandate to reimagine our courses for digital instruction, take on new responsibilities, mentor many students struggling with this transition and function with very little guidance or assurance from the administration.

Adjunct professors are concerned about the economic, physical and mental impact these changes will have on all workers at Valencia College that have no health benefits or sick leave. Yet Valencia College administrators have been doing everything they can to keep their employees from their right to a free and fair union election. Adjunct professors re-filed for their union election this past summer but the administration is doing everything they can to keep adjuncts from having a voice on campus. Whatever your job title, everyone at Valencia College deserves to negotiate for the tools and resources we need to do our jobs and survive in these uncertain times.

Petition

Dear Valencia President & Administrators

The Valencia College administration is attempting to deny adjunct faculty their legal right to decide for themselves if they wish to form a union in order to bargain for better pay and working conditions. Valencia College should follow the example of Seminole State College and respect faculty's right to vote.
