The National Consumers League said in a recent article that it's time for Congress to update the rules governing the contact lens industry by moving to common-sense signage instead of burdensome paperwork requirements, and requiring online contact lens sellers to use email or other electronic communication to verify prescriptions, not automated robocalls, to protect the patient safety of consumers.
The article by Sally Greenberg, executive director of the National Consumers League, concluded Congress "should start by requiring the use of the latest technologies—not robocalls—to get consumers the information they need about their eye prescriptions and that those prescriptions are verified as accurate by their eye professionals."
