There are more than 68,000 people in Chicago currently experiencing homelessness — and nearly 20,000 are children. Rising rents, gentrification, and economic instability are making it harder for residents to access stable housing. Yet the city spends far less on homelessness when compared to other major cities like New York and Los Angeles. We need to do better.
Bring Chicago Home (BCH) is the long-term, systemic solution to homelessness our communities have been asking for. It would create a dedicated revenue stream for affordable housing and services — safely housing 12,000 families over the next 10 years.
In September, our Bring Chicago Home coalition will be reintroducing the legislation into City Council. In order to make sure this legislation passes as quickly and decisively as possible, take two minutes to email your alderperson and urge them to sign on to this crucial legislation and ensure our all our neighbors can get and stay housed.
