With the official decision on Dobbs vs. Jackson Women's Health Organization, abortion is no longer protected on the federal level,
It's a dark day, but for the millions of people, particularly Black, Indigenous, and other people of color who have experienced significant barriers to abortion access even with Roe v. Wade on the books, this doesn't change much. It is merely a symbol of how far the U.S. Supreme Court is willing to go in order to restrict fundamental rights.
Roe v. Wade has never been our final stop. The only way through is forward.
The good news: While nobody should have to travel for a safe and common medical procedure, Cobalt and other reproductive rights organizations have already built an effective infrastructure to help folks who need an abortion cross state lines. We're also partnering with organizations in states with pre-Roe bans and trigger bans, offering support and sharing what we've learned as a state that has repeatedly voted down abortion bans. We're ready to fight back, but we need your help.
