The fate of America's wild horses and burros is in the hands of Congress... again!
On September 13, 2018, the Congress will begin discussions to finalize Fiscal Year 2018 Appropriations Language, which includes funding for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wild Horse and Burro Program. The House version of the spending bill includes the Stewart Amendment, which authorizes the BLM to manage wild horses and burros in non-reproducing and single sex herds and funds a mass surgical sterilization program. The Stewart language also directs the BLM to lay the groundwork for the mass destruction of unadopted horses over age 10 - barely middle age for a wild horse.
We need our elected officials to weigh in with members of the Conference Committee finalizing the bill to ensure that the Stewart language is rejected so that our wild horses and burros remain protected from mass sterilization and killing.
