Call on Congress to Protect Creation and Our Sacred Public Lands

Call on Congress to Protect Creation and Our Sacred Public Lands

As Christians, we are called to heal and protect creationYet today, our nation's public lands – places of deep ecological, spiritual, and cultural significance – are at risk of harmful extraction that would have devastating impacts on the local ecosystems and surrounding communities. Friends of the fossil fuel industry are working to roll back and undermine bedrock environmental protections like the Antiquities Act, a law that has safeguarded vital wildlife habitats, sacred Indigenous sites, and places that tell the stories of underrepresented groups in our nation's history.

The administration has further threatened ecologically rich and culturally significant sites like Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge through executive orders that expand oil and gas drilling. These attacks would have devastating impacts on indigenous communities like the Gwich'in tribe, who rely on the Porcupine Caribou Herd to make clothes, provide food, and maintain their spiritual connection to the land. Drilling in the Arctic threatens the fragile ecosystems and environment the tribe relies on.

As followers of Christ, we are called not only to care for creation but also to defend the vulnerable and seek justice (Isaiah 1:17). These unchecked attacks on our public lands go against our values to protect all of Creation.
