All domestic workers have a right to paid sick leave, but only 28% of San Francisco domestic workers report receiving it. (Find the details about paid sick requirements here: http://tinyurl.com/SFPaidSickLeaveLaw.)
At the end of 2021, domestic workers, employers, and allies passed an ordinance in San Francisco that will make it easier for employers to contribute to their workers' paid sick leave, even if they only employ them a few hours a month. This will help domestic workers with multiple employers, like house cleaners, to take time off when they are sick or need to care for a loved one. The new program goes into effect in 2025.
As a domestic employer or as an ally to domestic workers and employers, I will take action to support paid sick leave for San Francisco's nannies, housecleaners, and homecare providers.
