For years the American Wild Horse Campaign (AWHC) has been fighting back against the livestock industry and other special interest groups who have been advocating for the removal of wild horses so that they may continue grazing livestock on our public lands. Livestock outnumbers wild horses at a ratio of 30:1, yet wild horses continue to be scapegoated as the cause of deterioration on our public lands.
Now, several environmental groups have recently joined in this fight! Just this past week, the Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) — a leading environmental watchdog organization — sent a letter to Secretary Haaland calling on the Department of the Interior to stop ignoring the negative environmental impacts of livestock grazing and the subsequent scapegoating of wild horses as the root of these ecological issues. Earlier this month, the Sierra Club's National Office sent their own letter to Secretary Haaland calling for an end to all livestock grazing on horse-occupied herd management areas.
Will you stand with AWHC, PEER, and the Sierra Club today as we fight for the interests of wild horses and burros? Sign on to our petition below and demand that the Interior Department stop scapegoating wild horses and instead look into livestock removals as a means of public land preservation.
