Pushback on Boebert’s Harmful Bill and Appropriations Rider

Western Constituents Oppose Representative Boebert's H.R. 6009

From July through August of last year, over 260,000 people from across the country provided comments in support of strengthening common sense oil and gas regulations to better serve the American people.  BLM's proposed rule seeks to update regulations for drilling on our public lands and minerals, such as increased bond amounts, which haven't been updated in over 60 years. However, the US House passed Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert's bill threatening western communities by allowing the oil and gas industry to drill wells, make money, and more often than not, vanish when it's time to clean up the mess, due to insufficient bond amounts. The orphaned wells left behind leak toxic chemicals into our water and methane into our air, leaving rural communities at risk. There are more than 3 million abandoned wells across the country that must be addressed through strong regulations. In her proposals, Over 90% of western residents support making the oil and gas indistry pay to clean up their messes. The House is forsaking their constituents in favor of oil and gas company profits by giving the industry permission to walk away from their obligations and leave us to pay for cleanup while we breathe the toxic air and drink polluted water after they skip town.

Don't let powerful oil and gas interests weaken the safeguards we all deserve—protections from bad actors in the oil and gas industry, protections that ensure operators plug and clean up wells when they're depleted, protections that save us millions of dollars.

ACT NOW: Today, we need to show support for oil and gas reform by pushing back on this harmful legislation.
