Stop playing politics with our kids! We stand with our Kenosha public schools and students!
At the Annual Meeting of Electors on September 22, a group of disrupters hijacked the democratic process to serve a political agenda and put the needs of students at risk.
Rather than maximizing district spending to meet the increased needs of students, a fringe group of electors voted to lower the tax levy by an amount that is $1.2 million less than the tax levy in 2019-20. When compared to the 2021-22 proposed tax levy, this would result in local kids losing a total of $2.9 million in desperately needed resources. We reject the attempt to sabotage funding that provides students and educators with resources and support. We cannot continue to play politics with our students' education because it will be our most marginalized children and families that suffer the most.
In the last election cycle, more than 21,000 ballots were cast for school board members who were trusted to make decisions in the best interest of kids. Despite that, a few dozen saboteurs took over the meeting and made a decision for thousands of community members to vote down carefully considered decisions about what our schools need to operate.
We cannot allow outside interest groups, with a national agenda, to influence our school community and cause unnecessary chaos. After everything our community has endured over the last year and a half, now is not the time to cause further harm to our students. We must remain focused on doing what's best for kids and providing them with as many resources as possible.
If you stand with our students and support fully funding our schools, please add your name below and sign up for more information about next steps you can take.
