Tell Director Stone-Manning: Implement necessary reforms to the Wild Horse & Burro Program!

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recently confirmed its newest Director, Tracy Stone-Manning. AWHC welcomes Director Stone-Manning, but we also call for necessary reforms to the BLM's mismanaged Wild Horse & Burro Program.

Change for America's wild horses and burros is dire and needed now. Right now, thousands of wild horses are being rounded up across 3.4 million acres of land in Wyoming. AND for Fiscal Year 2022, the House and Senate appropriations committee gave the BLM a budget increase towards their helicopter roundup programs.

Send a message to Director Stone-Manning asking her to immediately address the following:

  • End the cash incentive adoption program that's sending truckloads of wild horses and burros into the slaughter pipeline.
  • Redirect resources away from inhumane and costly roundups toward scientific and cost-effective in-the-wild management with fertility control vaccines.
  • Address bias in resource allocation by reducing commercial livestock grazing within wild horse and burro habitats to conserve healthy and sustainable wild equid herds.
  • Bring accountability and compliance to roundups by requiring cameras on helicopters, traps, and holding pens during roundups.
  • Provide meaningful public observation of the roundup operations.
  • Strengthen the agency's Comprehensive Animal Welfare Program guidelines and make them enforceable.

Together we can protect the rights of America's wild horses. Help us preserve the freedom of these cherished animals now!
