There are many barriers that communities across Virginia face while accessing abortion care, and one of those barriers is transportation. In Virginia, the average person has to travel more than 20 miles to the nearest clinic. This burden can affect how people receive the medical care they need, which could be detrimental to their health or livelihood.
Through our Grassroots Leadership Volunteer Program, NARAL's volunteers are providing transportation to and from clinics when abortion funds reach out in need of assistance. Volunteers will be certified as abortion doulas and trained to provide not only transportation but safe and secure care to folks who are seeking abortion services in Virginia.
Through Practi-Cab, Volunteers are providing:
Transportation to and from clinics when abortion funds reach out to NARAL in need of assistance
Assistance with appointments when needed
Emotional support to patients
