FORTALEZA FELLOWSHIP 2022


 Learn more about organizing, civic engagement and electoral work in North Carolina by being a 2022 Fellow with Fortaleza NC. 

Eligibility

  • Either live or go to school in the Triangle area of NC, or live in one of the following counties: Onslow, Mecklenburg, Cumberland, Chatham, or Pitt. 

  • Be a current college student, recently graduated, or unable to attend for any reason related to financial need or immigration status.

  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus but not required. 

  • Having reliable transportation is a plus but not required, but must be able to coordinate transportation when needed.

Benefits

  • $1,000 per month for “part time” (15 hours/week) positions and $2,000 for “full time” (30 hours/week) positions.

Responsibilities

  • Attend ongoing trainings and weekly cohort meetings

  • Be part of either the Policy, Community Organizing, or Digital Organizing team

  • Policy team will conduct research on candidates for the 2022 NC elections, will support the coordination of candidate forums, will create political education materials, will work with grassroots groups to support get out the vote efforts and legislative advocacy work, will join coalitions (as relevant and as time permits) to learn more about statewide work and partner organizations, will conduct research of legislation and support lobby efforts during the NCGA 2022 short session. 

  • Programs & Community Organizing team will support in youth programming logistics, co-facilitation and coordinating organizing efforts. One team member will help in promoting vaccine equity and coordination of vaccine equity work with adult program members. The team will also help plan and coordinate special events and connect the organization's youth programming to adult programs and leaders. Implementing data tracking and management systems will also be a key responsibility of the team. 

  • Digital organizing team will help in creating digital content including (graphics, video, and audio), support in social media management and digital campaign development. Will organize and track data. Strategize new ways to track data that can be used in organizing efforts and support organizing efforts of the organization.
