The people of Michigan are awakening to the realization that systemic racism is a pervasive problem that infects nearly every aspect of our lives. This is most clearly exemplified by the disproportionate number of deaths of Black people during the Covid-19 pandemic. Several counties an municipalities across the state have already adopted resolutions declaring it to be a public health crisis and most recently, Gov. Whitmer issued an Executive Order to address the underlying reasons African Americans live shorter lives.
In June, Sen. Erika Geiss and 16 of her colleagues proposed SCR0027, which would commit the legislature to work with the Governor to promote racial equity and justice throughout the entire state of Michigan. However, this resolution was referred to the committee two months ago and is still waiting to be brought to the Senate floor for a vote.
Fill out the form below to send an email to each of the members of the Committee telling them to stop wasting time and advance Sen. Geiss' bill so it can finally be discussed, voted on and given the full force of law that it deserves.
